DAYTON, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure University baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Dayton Thursday afternoon.

Game 1 – Dayton 17, St. Bonaventure 3
Dayton jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, scoring on an RBI double from Carlos Castillo. Castillo would go on to score on a wild pitch.

The Flyers tacked on two runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead.
Â
The Bonnies got on the board when
Jack Putney was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third and an
Artin Biageyian sac fly in the fourth to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Â
However, Dayton added four runs in the fourth, five runs in the fifth, three runs in the seventh, and four runs in the eighth to secure the victory in game one of Thursday's doubleheader.

The Bonnies threatened in multiple innings with the bases loaded, but Dayton pitchers were able to work out of it giving up minimal runs.
Â
At the plate, Carlos Castillo went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while Marcos Pujols recorded two hits for the Flyers.
Â
Parker Bard started for Dayton, giving up two runs on three hits and striking out four. In relief, Anthony Hattrup threw three scoreless innings, only surrendering a hit with six strikeouts.

Adam Rankie tallied two hits for the Bonnies. Out of the bullpen,
Tripp Breen pitched 1.1 innings, only allowing one run on one hit.

Game 2 – Dayton 5, St. Bonaventure 2
Jack Putney got the Bonnies on the board first with an RBI single in the top of the first.

Ben Jones would respond for the Flyers with a leadoff homer to knot it up at one apiece.
Â
Dayton took a 2-1 lead with a sac fly from David Pedanou in the second inning.
Â
The Flyers extended their lead in the fourth inning, scoring three runs on four hits all with two outs to take a 5-1 advantage.
Â
The Bonnies threatened in the top of the fifth with runners at second and third with one out, but Dayton's starter Eli Majick was able induce a pair of groundballs to work out of the jam.
Â
Majick notched a solid outing for the Flyers as he threw six innings, surrendering two runs on nine hits with one walk and a strikeout.
Â
Thomas Grilli knocked in a run with a sac fly in the top of the seventh to make the score 5-2, but Dayton reliever Nick Wissman held the Bonnies there with a strikeout to end the inning.

Andrew Zapka picked up his fourth save of the season with a scoreless top of the ninth inning en route to Dayton's 12
th conference victory of the season.

Ben Jones led the way at the dish for the Flyers, finishing 3-for-5 with two RBIs in game two of Thursday's doubleheader.
Â
At the plate for the Bonnies,
Kyle Caccamise went 3-for4, while
Ryan O'Connell (1.1 IP) and
Bryce Hediger (two IP/three strikeouts) pitched scoreless innings in relief.

The Bonnies and Flyers will play the series finale on Saturday, May 13. First pitch is set for noon.
