ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse graduate Nora Anderson has been selected as the university's NCAA Woman of the Year nominee.
Atlantic 10 Conference member institutions have nominated a record total of 17 extraordinary female student-athletes for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award. The pool of nominees, which were announced Tuesday by the A-10, represent nine sports across 13 A-10 institutions.
The league's Senior Woman Administrators will vote on the nominees to select two student-athletes who will be named A-10 Woman of the Year and represent the Atlantic 10 Conference as 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year conference finalists. The A-10 now incorporates the two NCAA conference nominees as the two winners of the Atlantic 10 Woman of the Year, an award that was formalized in 2023.
The A-10 institutional nominees have been recognized for their leadership and service to their community as well as exceptional academic prowess and notable athletic success. The candidates have noteworthy credentials, including serving as student-athlete leaders, as well as garnering national and A-10 academic honors, and All-Conference awards, and postseason championship participation. A full profile of each candidate will be shared on Atlantic10.com beginning Wednesday, July 13.
Anderson has been an integral part of the women's lacrosse program throughout her four years at Bonaventure. She has played in 50 games, starting 35. She has logged 48 goals and 18 assists in her career along with 57 draw controls. She has been on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll all four years while also making the 2022 Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team.
This past May, she earned the Athletic Department's Letterwinner Award which is presented every year to a student-athlete who has assembled an outstanding record of athletic accomplishments over their careers and have proven instrumental to their teams' success.
One of the most prestigious NCAA awards, the Woman of the Year Award was established in 1991 to celebrate the achievements of women in intercollegiate athletics. Now in its 32nd year, the NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers. It's worth nothing that this year marks the 50th Anniversary of the passage of Title IX.
Per the NCAA, all conference-level nominees are forwarded to the Woman of the Year selection committee. The selection committee will choose the top 10 honorees in each division. From among those 30 honorees, the selection committee will determine the three finalists in each division. Finally, the members of the Committee on Women's Athletics will vote from among the top nine finalists to determine the 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year. The top 30 honorees will be honored, and the 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year winner will be announced this fall.
