WASHINGTON, D.C. – St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse graduate
Fiona McGovern has earned selection as the university's NCAA Woman of the Year nominee.
Atlantic 10 Conference member institutions have nominated 13 extraordinary female student-athletes for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award. The league's Senior Woman Administrators will vote on the nominees to select two student-athletes who will be named A-10 Woman of the Year and represent the league as 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year conference finalists.
One of the most prestigious NCAA awards, the Woman of the Year Award was established in 1991 to celebrate the achievements of women in intercollegiate athletics. Now in its 35th year, the NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors graduating female college athletes who have distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.
Per the NCAA, all conference-level nominees are advanced to the Woman of the Year selection committee. The selection committee will choose the top 10 honorees in each division. From among those 30 honorees, the selection committee will determine the three finalists in each division. Finally, the members of the Committee on Women's Athletics will vote from among the top nine finalists to determine the 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year. The top 30 honorees will be honored, and the 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year winner will be announced this fall.
McGovern wrapped one of the finest careers in Bonnies program history this spring, ranking highly throughout the Bonaventure record book.
She became just the second player in Bonnies history to surpass 200 career points, graduating with 218 to stand behind only Kelly Chevez '05 in SBU scoring. McGovern also ranks third in career assists (93) and fifth in goals (125).
Her senior season was perhaps her finest as she totaled 73 points, a career-high that is good for third in Bona single-season scoring. She facilitated the Bona offense which set school records this year by tying the program top mark of 40 assists, the most by any Bonnies player since Brenna Houghton originally set the benchmark in 2007.
The Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. native was just as successful in the classroom, graduating with a degree in health science and a 4.0 cumulative GPA. She earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District accolades three times and also was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team on two occasions.
McGovern also helped key a program turnaround during her four seasons with the Bonnies, playing a central role in leading Bona's to two Atlantic 10 Tournament appearances in the last three years, reaching the postseason in 2023 and 2025.
During her career, McGovern appeared in 66 games, starting in 61 contests. She plans to attend George Washington Medical School after graduation.
