The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team returns from the bye for a pair of games in the DMV Wednesday and Saturday. The Bonnies get their week started Feb. 7 at 6:00 p.m. when they take on George Washington in the nation's capital before heading to Richmond to take on VCU Feb. 10 at 1:00 p.m.
OPENING TIP
The Bonnies last competed Jan. 31 when they hosted Davidson, falling to the Wildcats, 65-57. Dani Haskell led the way with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including four threes.
Payton Fields also finished in double figures for the Brown and White with 11 points to go along with six rebounds. Isabellah Middleton tallied nine points and seven rebounds to go along with three steals in 22 minutes off the bench.
BY THE NUMBERS
4 – Dani Haskell registered her fourth 20-point outing of the season against Davidson last Wednesday. It marks her first 20-point game since scoring a season-high 27 points in a win over Loyola Chicago Dec. 30.
5.6 – Redshirt junior Isabellah Middleton leads the Bonnies in rebounding, grabbing 5.6 per game and has tallied 118 total rebounds this season. Middleton has grabbed five or more rebounds in 13 games.
15.5 – As a team, the Bonnies rank fifth in the Atlantic 10 in fouls per game, committing just 15.5 a contest.
24 – Fifth-year Claire Cody ranks second on the Bonnies with 24 made threes, marking a new career-high for a single season.
46.4 – Senior Nadechka Laccen is shooting a team-best 46.4 percent from the floor this year. That mark is up from 29.6 percent during the 2022-23 season. Laccen has also increased her scoring output from 7.7 points to 10.4 points per game.
GEORGE WASHINGTON NOTES
- George Washington enters Wednesday's contest 8-14 overall and 1-9 in Atlantic 10 play. The Revolutionaries have lost six in a row with their last win coming over the Bonnies Jan. 14 at the Reilly Center. GW picked up non-conference wins over Stonehill, Hampton, Coppin State, Cheyney, American, Manhattan and Howard.
- Caroline McCombs is in her third season in D.C., touting a record of 39-45 with the Revolutionaries. Prior to GW, McCombs spent seven seasons as the head coach at Stony Brook, amassing 130 wins and 15 or more victories in six out of the seven years.
- GW is paced offensively by Nya Robertson who is averaging 15.9 points per game. Nya Lok is also averaging double figures for the Revolutionaries while also grabbing 4.9 rebounds per game. Mayowa Taiwo leads GW on the glass, pulling down 5.8 boards per contest.
SERIES HISTORY
The Bonnies and Revolutionaries are set to meet for the 52nd time Wednesday evening. GW owns the all-time series, 42-9, and has won the last four meetings between the two teams. The Bonnies are just 1-22 against George Washington on the road with the lone win coming Jan. 15, 2011 in a 72-48 victory.
VCU NOTES
- VCU enters the week 19-3 overall and 8-2 in A-10 play, including a perfect 11-0 on home court. The Rams only blemishes have been road matchups with James Madison, Richmond and George Mason. VCU was picked to finish 10th in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.
- The Rams are coached by Beth O'Boyle who is in her 10th season in Richmond. O'Boyle has guided VCU to 164 wins, including three seasons with 20 or more victories. She is in her 16th season overall as a head coach, spending three seasons at Stony Brook and three at Division III Montclair State. O'Boyle has a career coaching record of 257-214. She ranks fourth among active Atlantic 10 head coaches in conference victories with 86 wins.
- VCU is led by Sarah Te-Biasu who is averaging 15.1 points per game while Timaya Lewis-Eutsey (13.1 ppg) and Mary-Anna Asare (11.2 ppg) are also averaging double figures. Mykel Parham leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 8.1 rebounds per contest.
- As a team, VCU leads the NCAA in scoring defense, allowing just 51.2 points a game. The Rams also lead the NCAA in three-point percentage defense, holding teams to a 22.4 percent mark from beyond the arc. VCU is +10.9 in rebounding margin this season, sitting atop the Atlantic 10 and also ranks eighth in the NCAA.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday marks the 13th meeting between the Bonnies and Rams. VCU took the first 11 matchups between the two teams before the Bonnies captured their first win of the series last season, 68-62, at the Reilly Center. Nikki Oppenheimer paced the Bonnies with 22 points in the Senior Day victory.
UP NEXT
The Bonnies return home to begin a three-game homestand Wednesday, Feb. 14 when they host Duquesne. Tip is slated for 7:00 p.m.
