EMMITSBURG, MD – The St. Bonaventure baseball team brought the bats to secure their first series victory of the spring with a 17-8 victory Sunday afternoon at Mount St. Mary's.
The Bonnies (7-11) broke open what was a tie game with an eight-run sixth.
Adam Rankie broke the deadlock with a two-run double down the left field line for a 7-5 edge. Freshman Antonio Cordeiro followed with his third home run of the week, a three-run shot to right to double up The Mount, 10-5. Later in the inning, a run-scoring groundout from Chris Hoalcraft and a two-run single by Paul Vossen blew it open.
SBU cracked four homers and five Bonnies had multi-hit days – Hoalcraft had three while Vossen, Rankie, David Marshall Jr. and Harrison Kaufman all had two hits apiece.
Hoalcraft logged a career-high five RBIs while Cordeiro drove in three with Vossen, Rankie, Jackson DeJohn and Morgan Little all plating two each.
The second inning saw fireworks.
For the Bonnies, the top half of the inning was much more enjoyable than the home half.
Hoalcraft's second career home run and first of the season gave the visitors an early cushion as he cracked a grand slam to center for a 4-0 advantage.
The Mount answered right back, tying the game on a three-run bomb from Josh Braxton.
The two teams went homer-for-homer again in the fourth.
Kaufman delivered his first round-tripper at the Division I level as the Bonnies pushed ahead again.
Once more, though, the lead was short-lived as Shane Wockley's solo clout tied the game at 5-5.
After Bona's huge sixth inning, The Mount (2-14-1) got two runs back in the home half of the frame.
Offense kept coming for the Bonnies, however, as Little singled in two more in the seventh.
DeJohn capped the offense with a no-doubt blast for the fourth homer of the afternoon in the ninth.
Andrew Ayers and Luke Roggenburk recorded key outs out of the bullpen in the middle innings when the game was tied.
Roggenburk earned the win on the hill with 3.2 frames without allowing an earned run. He walked one and struck out two. Tristan Ciampa started, working 3.2 innings while surrendering five runs with four strikeouts.
Next up, the Bonnies are slated to travel to Penn State in mid-week action Tuesday.
