ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Bonnies golf student-athletes Peter Byrne and Caleb Decker have each earned spots on the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District At-Large Team for their work in the classroom and on the course this year.
The 2024 Academic All-District® Men's At-Large teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom.
The At-Large Teams include the sports of golf, fencing, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
Byrne receives the recognition for the second consecutive year after earning his undergraduate degree in marketing this spring. The South Orange, N.J. native boasts a 3.66 cumulative GPA over his Bonaventure career.
This season, he played in all 12 tournaments the Bonnies competed in while compiling a 75.7 stroke average for the year. He tied for second in a duel match vs. Colgate with rounds of 69-70 and also finished second in the Little Three Championship after rounds of 68-69.
Decker, a sophomore from Vernon, N.Y., is a business management major with a 3.59 cumulative GPA.
He played in 10 tournaments this season with a 76.9 stroke average including his career-best round of 3-under 69 to finish tied for second in The Murray Cup vs. Siena in October. He played 13th out of 87 competitors at the Matthews Auto Intercollegiate with matching rounds of even par 72 during the fall as well and had a spring-best effort of 1-under 70 in the first round of competition at the Drexel Match Play.
Honorees were nominated by and voted on by athletic communications directors nationwide. To be eligible, student-athletes needed to be at least sophomores academically with a 3.5+ lifetime GPA while playing in at least 70 percent of the team's team scoring events.
