St. Bonaventure Closes Road Trip at Florida Atlantic

11/29/2025 8:00:00 AM

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The St. Bonaventure men's basketball team conclude a three-game road trip against Florida Atlantic on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 30) at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and the game will be televised live on ESPN2.

To Be Frank
St. Bonaventure center Frank Mitchell led the Bonnies to win over East Carolina (Nov. 27) with 17 points and 12 rebounds. He added two assists, two blocks and a steal while shooting 7-for-12 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free throw line.

Mitchell's double-double was his fourth of the season and the 22nd of his career. All four games that Mitchell has reached double figure rebounds have been double-doubles, and the Bonnies have won all four games.

Mitchell is averaging 16.4 points per game this season. His 10.1 rebounds per game and four double-doubles lead the Atlantic 10 conference as of Friday (Nov. 28). The senior is the only player in the conference averaging a double-double.

The Toronto native is on pace for 313 boards this season, good enough for sixth most in St. Bonaventure history.

Mitchell has also been contributing on the defensive end as well, averaging 1.3 blocks and 1.1 steals per game.

Daniel Delivers
Daniel Egbuniwe was the late-game hero for St. Bonaventure against East Carolina, delivering 14 second-half points and four three-pointers in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Egbuniwe drilled a three with just under two minutes to play that allowed the Bonnies to pull away with a five-point lead. He made a career-best five three-pointers in the game, tying a season high for any St. Bonaventure player (Buddy Simmons II vs. Bradley, Nov. 3).

After playing just eight minutes in the season opener and missing the next three games due to injury, Egbuniwe has bounced back in his last three games, progressively playing more minutes and having a bigger impact on the Bonnies offense.

The crescendo culminated in a monster performance on Thursday, as Egbuniwe finished the game with 17 points, three rebounds, two blocks and two steals while shooting 6-for-8 from the floor and 5-for-6 from beyond the arc.

The performance ties Amar'e Marshall for the most points off the bench by a St. Bonaventure player this season. Marshall had 17 points in 29 minutes in a win over Youngstown State (Nov. 15) while shooting an extremely efficient 6-for-7 from the field.

O Captain My Captain
Bonnies captain and point guard Dasonte Bowen has been a steady presence running the SBU offense this season. While relatively quiet in the scoring column, Bowen has been successful facilitating for his teammates.

Bowen's 3.6 assists per game are tied for eighth-most in the Atlantic 10. Meanwhile, the Boston native's assist/turnover ratio of 3.13 ranks second in the conference, behind only RJ Johnson of Rhode Island.

Bowen -- who celebrated his 23rd birthday on Friday (Nov. 28) -- reached double figures for the first time this season against East Carolina on Thursday (Nov. 28), going 6-for-6 from the free throw line to help put the game on ice.

Lockdown Defense
The Bonnies had a stellar defensive performance against East Carolina, holding the Pirates to 58 points. It's the lowest point total for a St. Bonaventure opponent this season.

St. Bonaventure forced a season-best 17 turnovers while posting six blocks and seven steals as a team. It was the sixth time in seven games that the Bonnies have had at least five blocks and five steals in a game.

Notes:
  • The Owls enter Thursday at 5-2 after falling to fellow Atlantic-10 member George Mason on Tuesday (Nov. 25) at a neutral site in Daytona Beach, Fla.
  • Florida Atlantic is led by guards Kanaan Carlyle (16.6 ppg) and Devin Vanterpool (16.0 ppg).
  • Devin's father, David Vanterpool, is a St. Bonaventure Hall of Fame member, playing for the Bonnies from 1991-95. He averaged 13.7 points over 112 career games for St. Bonaventure.
  • Devin Vanterpool also leads the Owls in rebounds (6.9 rpg) and assists (3.3 apg).
