Bonnies Stretch Win Streak in Commanding Effort vs. UMass

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure baseball team extended their win streak to four games on Friday, beating UMass, 10-1, at Handler Park behind a complete game effort on the hill by senior Chance Moore and power out of the Bona bats.

Bonaventure came out of the gates quickly.

Sophomore catcher Antonio Cordeiro added to his Atlantic 10 lead by tossing out his 16th caught runner of the season to end the top of the Minutemen first.

In the bottom of the inning, David Marshall Jr. sent a single through the middle with one out. In the next at-bat, Chris Hoalcraft blasted a two-run opposite field home run to right. This marked his fourth straight game with a home run, tying the program record with Tyler Kelder (2020) and Bonnies Hall of Fame member Brian Pellegrini (2006).

UMass scored their single run of the game in the third.

After a leadoff double to start the inning, the Minutemen hit another double with two outs to get on the board.

The Bonnies answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own.

After Jayce Tharnish led the inning off with a single, Chris Hoalcraft brought in his third run of the day with a triple to right-center. Hoalcraft came in to score one batter later when Harrison Kaufman poked a single through the middle for a 4-1 lead through three.

Bona doubled its lead in sixth inning thanks to Marshall.

Following singles from Mike Gunning and Morgan Little and a walk by Tharnish loaded the bases, Marshall sent a grand slam over the right field fence to give the Bonnies an 8-1 advantage.

In the seventh, Bonaventure added two more from the bat of Gunning.

With two strikes and a runner on first, Gunning belted a line drive out to left-center that cleared the fence for Bona's third round-tripper of the day.

The run support proved more than enough for Moore who was making his final career appearance in a Bonnies uniform.

Moore threw a complete game on the mound, allowing only six hits and one run while striking out four. It marks the first nine-inning effort by a Bonaventure pitcher since Luke Roggenburk in 2023 at George Mason.

The Bonnies will play game two of the series Saturday at 2 p.m.
