Bonnies Announce Public Practice at Toronto’s Humber College

The event marks a homecoming for center Frank Mitchell, who began his career at Humber in 2021-22

TORONTO – The St. Bonaventure men's basketball program will host a public practice and Q&A at Toronto's Humber College on October 5, the program announced Tuesday (Sept. 2), bolstering the Bonnies' rich history of recruiting and engagement in Canada.

Immediately following the practice, St. Bonaventure Men's Basketball General Manager Adrian Wojnarowski will moderate a Q&A session with Bonnies' head coach Mark Schmidt and Humber head coach Omar Miles. Miles is a two-time CCAA National Champion and three-time OCAA Coach of the Year, leading the Hawks to a 72-17 (.809) record over his five seasons at Humber.

Senior transfer and Toronto native Frank Mitchell will return home to Canada with his new team. Mitchell spent his freshman season at Humber in 2021-22, averaging 14.5 points and 18.0 rebounds over eight games. He set the Hawks' single-game record with 31 rebounds against Redeemer (Feb. 26).

"We are thrilled to bring St. Bonaventure basketball to Humber College and Toronto for a public practice and event," Wojnarowski said. "It is a fitting homecoming for alumnus Frank Mitchell and Milton-native Brayden Jackson and a chance for the grassroots basketball community in the 416 to watch and interact with our team up close! High-level Atlantic 10 Conference basketball is nearby at St. Bonaventure, and this is yet another way we are prioritizing our partnership with Toronto and Canadian basketball."

"We are so excited to partner with Humber College to showcase our team to players and coaches in the Toronto community," Schmidt said. "We have a long history of recruiting incredible players from the Toronto area and look forward to continuing that relationship by finding the next wave of Bonnies from Canada."

Several Bona's legends have come from the Toronto area during Schmidt's tenure, including the Bonnies' second all-time leading scorer Andrew Nicholson ('12), overseas star Matthew Wright ('14), and four-year players Vidal Massiah ('02) and Nelson Kaputo ('19).

Prior to Schmidt's arrival at St. Bonaventure in 2001, the program was home to prolific shot-blocker Caswell Cyrus ('00), All-A-10 member Rocky Llewellyn ('89) and Barry Mungar ('86), who represented Canada in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and has since been named to the SBU Athletics Hall of Fame.

The event will take place at the Humber Athletic Centre in Toronto. The open practice portion will begin at 11 a.m. ET, with the Q&A session directly to follow.
