Bonnies Alums Meet in British Pro League

10/5/2026 8:30:00 AM

A British Super League matchup this week between the Sheffield Hatters and the Cardiff Met Archers may have been played an ocean away from St. Bonaventure's campus, but it still had a distinctively Bonnies feel.

For Sheffield, Laycee Drake, '26, suited up in her professional debut.

On the opposing sideline, Cardiff was under the direction of coach Stefanie Collins, '06.

Drake, making her first appearance in the top level of competition for women's basketball in Great Britain, recorded an impressive senior season with the Bonnies last year. She started all 33 games, averaging 15.5 points and 6.3 rebounds as SBU returned to the national postseason.

She carried that over into her pro debut, filling the stat sheet with 16 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals as the Hatters scored a convincing 103-64 win.

Collins may have been on the wrong side of the scoreboard in this matchup, but she has enjoyed much success in the professional ranks.

A member of the 2012 Great Britain Olympic team, she has played more games for Great Britain's national squad than any other player in history. She later moved into the coaching ranks where she has served as head coach for Cardiff, a team she also played for. Collins' outstanding career with the Archers includes several national championship medals, a league Player of the Year award and multiple playoff titles. Her remarkable playing career has seen Collins play professionally for over 15 years since her Bonaventure graduation. She has also served as head coach for the England U-17 team in addition to various coaching roles with GB Basketball.

At the time of her St. Bonaventure Athletics Hall of Fame induction in 2024, she stood 12th in career scoring (1,421 points), third in total 3-pointers (288), seventh in free throw percentage (.815), 10th in steals (148), and her 73 games of double-figure scoring is ninth-most in Bona's history.
