The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team wraps up a pair of games in Virginia Saturday, Feb. 14 when it takes on VCU. Tipoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. at the Siegel Center.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies fell to Richmond 75-52 on the road Wednesday evening at the Robins Center.
Brillana Boyd paced the Bonnies with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting to go along with a team-high eight rebounds. Laycee Drake and Olivia DiFranco chipped in nine points apiece for the Brown and White.
Bona's led the Spiders at halftime, 32-30, after six first half lead changes.
The Spiders, however, outscored the Bonnies 45-20 in the second half to pull away for the victory.
60 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER
Bona's is 11-2 this season when allowing 60 or less points, giving up 61.5 points per game. Rhode Island touts the best scoring defense in the A-10, allowing just 53.1 points per contest.
DEFENDING THE THREE
The Brown and White currently sit second in the Atlantic 10, holding opponents to a 28.1 shooting percentage from beyond the arc this season.
The Bonnies have held opponents to five or fewer made 3-pointers 12 times this season, including a season-low one made three in the season opener against Mansfield Nov. 3.
EVERYBODY EATS
The Bonnies rank third in the Atlantic 10 in bench scoring, averaging 22.6 points per game from reserves.
Bona's has outscored its opponents bench in 15 games this season, scoring a season-high 52 bench points vs. Mansfield in the season opener.
VCU NOTES
- VCU enters the weekend 8-17 overall and are 4-9 in Atlantic 10 play, coming off an 85-42 loss to Rhode Island Wednesday evening. The Rams finished last season 12-19 overall and 6-12 in A-10 play. VCU was picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.
- Katarina Knezevic leads the Rams in scoring and rebounding this season, averaging 9.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Cyriah Griffin is second on the team in scoring, chipping in 7.6 points per contest.
- Kirk Crawford is currently serving as the interim head coach for VCU following a change in leadership Feb. 2.
SERIES HISTORY
The Bonnies and Rams are set to meet for the 15th time Saturday afternoon. VCU has controlled the all-time series, leading 13-1.
Bona's lone win over the Rams came on Feb. 18, 2023, 68-62, at the Reilly Center behind 22 points from Nikki Oppenheimer.
Bonnies head coach Jim Crowley is 0-7 all-time against VCU.
