ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team wrapped up the 2026 regular season on a high note Saturday afternoon at a rainy Marra Athletics Complex, toppling George Washington by a score of 15-4, led by a five-goal performance from sophomore
Sidney Van Tassel.
Â
Although the Revolutionaries (9-7, 4-5 A-10) jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the first quarter, the Bonnies (10-7, 6-3 A-10) quickly found their stride and began pouring on the offensive pressure. An 11-0 run spanning across the final three quarters blew the game wide open in favor of the hosts.
Â
Van Tassel scored all five of her goals during that sprint, helping the Bonnies gain a stranglehold on the matchup while setting a new personal single-game career high. The sophomore scored back-to-back times in the second quarter before tallying her final three goals in the next period, earning a third quarter hat trick. Senior captain
Brooke Piper recorded three scores of her own to add to the hosts' stretch of dominance. With her effort on Saturday, she now has reached the 60-goal mark for the second consecutive year and becomes the first Bonnies player in program history to achieve that feat.Â
Â
Also contributing to the flurry of goals were seniors
Grace Hollenbeck and
Megan Schillinger and junior
Kierstin Hillis, all of whom scored once. At the end of the run, the hosts held a 12-2 lead and were sitting on a massive swing of momentum.
Â
George Washington finally answered back with about 13 minutes to play in the fourth quarter, but it was far too late for a comeback. Back-to-back goals from senior
Rylee Gonzalez bumped SBU to a 14-3 lead and Schillinger added the cherry on top within the final two minutes for a 15th goal.
Â
Sophomore goalkeeper
Judy Mahoney played all 60 minutes in goal, making three saves and earning her 10th victory of the season.
Â
Senior captain
Brit Colangelo led the Brown and White in both groundballs (4) and caused turnovers (4). Classmate and fellow captain
Kate Hennessey caused two turnovers and scooped a groundball while freshman defender
Brooke Owens collected two groundballs and forced one turnover.
St. Bonaventure's defense limited GW attacker Grace Curry to just two goals, with one coming well after the game was decided. Curry entered the day as one of the nation's leaders with 64 goals on the season.Â

Schillinger began the day ranking 16th among all active Division I players in draw controls.
- With just four goals allowed, the Bonnies displayed their strongest showing of the year on defense since holding Long Island to just two scores in a 12-2 victory in February.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH LEIGHANN STAUFFER
"The offense was on fire today. I think they played like a collective group and they were just on fire today. They were firing on all cylinders, and when they play like that, they are really hard to stop. I'm very proud of them. I think we needed a do-over from Senior Day (last month) and we absolutely executed that. Today was better than I could have imagined."
Â
"As much as we want to celebrate this, and we will, the job's not done. We're looking to make it past the first round of the A-10 Tournament for sure, and we want to make it to Sunday. That's something we've been talking about for the entire time the seniors have been here, and we actually have an opportunity to do it. I think that's in the forefront of their minds right now."
Â
UP NEXT
The Bonnies will travel to the Atlantic 10 Tournament next week, hosted by Davidson. St. Bonaventure has earned the No. 3 seed and will play No. 6 George Washington once again Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m.
