Barbara Questa is in her 34th year as the most senior member of the athletics administration team.
After spending nine years as the Deputy Director of Athletics, she was promoted to Executive Deputy Director of Athletics in the summer of 2022. In her role, Questa is involved in all aspects of day-to-day operations of the department including budget approval, human resource initiatives and strategic planning. She has direct supervision over the department’s Finance area and is integrally involved with the External Relations team. Questa also oversees three sports, is the departmental liaison to a variety of university offices and serves on a number of internal committees including the University's Board of Trustees' Committee on Athletics. She continues to serve as the University’s NCAA Senior Woman Administrator, a title she has held since she began her tenure in 1992. Questa has previously held the positions of Assistant Athletic Director, Associate Athletic Director, Sr. Associate Athletic Director, Deputy Director of Athletics and has served as Interim Director of Athletics six times, most recently in 2024.
Questa has been a guest speaker at local high schools and colleges regarding the role of women in athletics/non-traditional careers as well as a speaker for the growing and diverse field of Sports Management.
As the longest tenured SWA in the Atlantic 10 Conference, Questa has served on numerous committees during her 31 years in the conference. She currently co-chairs the Women's Lacrosse Committee and serves on the Sports and Competition Committee. Questa previously served in the past on the Finance Committee, Officiating Committee, Swimming and Diving Committee, Women's Basketball Committee, Marketing, Television Committee and Commissioner’s Search Committee. She is a past member of the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Rules Committee and has served as Chair of the NCAA Memorial Resolutions Committee as well as working as an on-sight supervisor for the NCAA Women's Basketball Committee. Questa previously served a three-year term on the Collegiate Women’s Lacrosse Officiating Association (CWLOA). She is a member of Women Leaders in College Sports as well as NACDA. In 2023, Questa was jointly recognized by SBU and the Atlantic 10 Conference as a Title IX Trailblazer for her long-time dedication to women’s athletics.
Prior to joining St. Bonaventure, Questa worked at the East Coast Conference as Assistant Commissioner for Championships and Compliance and also at Syracuse University.
Questa received her Bachelors of Science degree in Physical Education from Temple University in 1988. In 1992, she earned her Masters of Education from Temple with a concentration in Sports Administration.
A standout student-athlete at Temple, she was an All-American and All-Region defender on the 1988 NCAA Championship women's lacrosse team as well as a four-year member of the nationally ranked field hockey team. Questa also was a member of the U.S. Women's Lacrosse National Team in 1988-1989. During the summer of 1989, she was part of a select group of individuals who traveled to Prague, in the former Czechoslovakia, to introduce field Lacrosse to the country and participated in the first international lacrosse tournament held in an eastern-bloc country. She has been inducted into Temple University’s Athletics Hall of Fame twice: In 2023 she was inducted as a stand-out lacrosse player; and in 2012, she was inducted alongside other members of her 1988 NCAA Division I National Championship Women's Lacrosse team. She is also a member of Springfield (PA) High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
A native of Springfield, Pennsylvania, Questa resides in Allegany, N.Y. with her husband Joe and son Michael. Her step-daughter Santana is a 2013 graduate of St. Bonaventure.
