Bob Macfarlane enters his fourth year as the St.Bonaventure’s men’s and women’s cross countryhead coach after serving as the head varsity girls cross countrycoach at Bradford Area School District for the past sevenyears.
He led the cross country team to a 66-4 dual meet record as wellas five Pennsylvania District IX AAA titles and coached fourindividual district champions. Macfarlane coached five statequalifying teams and one state medalist.
Macfarlane served as the Bradford Area head girls’ trackand field coach in 2008-09, but was the assistant coach forthe girls’ team for 13 years prior. During his time atBradford, he assisted the team to eight Pennsylvania District IXAAA Championships including a Pennsylvania State title in1996. Macfarlane was also the distance coach for the BradfordIndoor Track and Field team for eight years.
In 2003-04, Macfarlane had the chance to be the head coach forTeam New York/Pennsylvania when they traveled to Australia forinternational meets. Under his direction, the 2003 team wonthe international title.
Macfarlane has also been a teacher in Bradford since 1977 inboth the secondary and elementary school as has been a lead teacherfor the past three years. He is an adjunct professor at theUniversity of Pittsburgh at Bradford, teaching World RegionalGeography and Methods of Social Studies Teaching.
He graduated with a bachelor’s in elementary and secondaryeducation with a concentration in history from St. Bonaventure in1977 and received also his master’s of education from St.Bonaventure. Macfarlane’s daughter, Heather, and son,Kyle, both reside in Los Angeles.
