The GoBonnies.com Athlete of the Week presented by CPL for the week ending Sept. 5 is golf graduate student Christian Chapman.
Chapman got his season off to a great start this past Tuesday, leading the Bonnies to victory in the Little Three Championship over rivals Canisius and Niagara by earning medalist honors at Pendleton Creek Golf Course.
Chapman, a native of Victor, N.Y., was unstoppable during the morning round. He drained six birdies and did not have a single blemish on his scorecard on the way to a 6-under 66, the third round that low in school history. Only Patrick Sheerer (2016 at the Binghamton Invitational) and Andy Whalen (2005 at the James Madison Invitational) have ever carded a 66 during a Bonnies round while Chapman's 6-under also tied Sheerer for the best score vs. par in program history.
Further, Chapman's effort was the best by any player in the Little Three Championship since 2012 when Canisius' Michael Craig shot 67.
He shot 1-over 73 in the afternoon to win the tournament by a stroke over teammate Danny Gianniny, finishing the day with nine total birdies.
This past weekend, he finished second on the team after shooting rounds of 73-73-77 in the Colgate Invitational at Seven Oaks Golf Club. His effort helped the Bonnies to a fifth-place finish in a strong 15-team field, including the best round in the field on Sunday (287). It was Bona’s best finish at Colgate in a full-field event since 2014.
The Bonnies are back in action Sept. 13-14 at the VCU Invitational in Richmond, Va.
