Located in the western portion of the Marra Athletics Complex, St. Bonaventure's softball field was renamed Joyce Field in September of 2015. The new name is the result of the leadership gift donated by Charles Joyce to the field's renovation. The opening of the field gives St. Bonaventure one of the finest softball facilities in the Northeast. The first games at the newly renovated field were played on March 23, 2016.
Then-St. Bonaventure president Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., S.T.D. revealed the new name during a kick-off event at the field.
Mr. Joyce, who is a resident of Wellsville, N.Y., and his family have been longtime benefactors of St. Bonaventure. Mr. Joyce is president and CEO of Otis Eastern Service LLC in Wellsville, which is one of the leading oil and gas pipeline construction companies in the northeast U.S.
The St. Bonaventure Athletics Department thanks Joyce and the many other donors who made the renovation possible. More than $800,000 has been raised to date in Phase II of St. Bonaventure’s Athletics Fields Project, creating one of the top softball facilities in the Atlantic 10.
The renovations converted the field to A-Turf Titan, which is the same artificial turf that was installed on St. Bonaventure’s multi-purpose athletics field. In addition, a new scoreboard, backstop, dugouts and perimeter fences were installed.
A brand new press box was added to the facility for the 2018 season.
