ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - A goal by sophomore Ryan Mahoney gave St. Bonaventure a 2-2 tie with Syracuse on Wednesday at McGraw-Jennings Field.
It was a 1-1 contest late in the second half when Kirk Johnson gave Syracuse a 2-1 lead, scoring on a partial breakaway with 2:58 remaining.
Mahoney tied the game just 15 seconds later when he headed in the rebound of a shot by freshman teammate Kevin Omokhua. Omokhua drilled a shot from the right side past Orangemen keeper Alim Karim that rang off the post.
The teams played through two 10-minute overtimes without a clear scoring opportunity for either club.
In the first half, Omokhua gave the Bonnies a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when he scored off a scramble in front of the net. It was the first goal of his career.
The lead stood unitl Syracuse's Tony Matrone tied the game in the 59th minute.
St. Bonaventure senior keeper Mike Krupka made four saves while Karim had six saves.
St. Bonaventure is now 0-3-1 while Syracuse is 1-1-2.
The Bonnies will play at Cornell this Friday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m.
