Bonnies lose in first day of Classic

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure men's soccer team fell to Albany, 2-1, in the opening day of the St. Bonaventure adidas Classic.

Less than one minute into the game, Albany's Josh Lenoff passed off to teammate Peter Squeglia, putting the Great Danes (1-1-1) on the board 1-0.

In the second half, Albany's Nicos Savva put his team ahead by two off a pass from Jonathan Stroud.

Albany held the Bonnies (0-2) scoreless through the first 79 minutes of play. Senior Jahmal Cameron avoided a defender in the box and netted the team's only goal. Senior Geron DuPorte earned the assist.

In the first game of the day, the La Salle Explorers downed the Maine Black Bears in double overtime, 1-0.

La Salle's Jeff Spiker scored in the first 9th minute of the second overtime period, giving the Explorers the win in sudden death.

The Bonnies will take on Maine tomorrow at 2:30, while La Salle and Albany will square off at noon in the final day of the tournament.
