For the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team there's no place like ... Corning Memorial Stadium.
The Bonnies capped their four-game stay in Corning with a 16-10 win over Marist on Wednesday afternoon.The win improves St. Bonaventure's record to 4-0, while Marist falls to 1-4.
Junior Katie Hurley opened the scoring 9:55 into the contest, but a Marist goal evened the count just nine seconds later. Back-to-back goals by sophomore Stephanie Jordan from classmate Brenna Houghton ignited a 4-0 Bona run that ended at the 11:03 mark. Senior Nicole Motondo and freshman Katelyn Faas tallied the other two goals.
The Red Foxes responded with a 3-1 spurt of their own to climb within two, 6-4, with 4:44 remaining. A Marist scored sandwiched between a pair of goals from Faas and senior Courtney Gibbons to end the half made it an 8-5 Bona lead heading into the break.
The Bonnies regained control of the game early in the second half as both Jordan and Hurley completed their hat tricks to push the lead to six, at 11-5. Jordan tallied the first goal just 1:15 into the half and Hurley followed with consecutive goals ending at 19:43.
St. Bonaventure never found itself in any danger the rest of the way as the two teams traded goals the rest of the way.
Houghton finished with a career-high six points on five assists, tying the school record for assists in a game. Hurley dished out a pair of assists to go along with her second hat trick of the season. Jordan combined her first career three-goal performance with an assist to finish with a career-high four points. Faas was the third Bonnie to record a hat trick, while Motondo and Gibbons tallied two goals. Seniors Sarah Dressler and Alexis Spallone also notched one goal apiece.
Junior Courtney Hastrich turned away 10 shots to earn her second win in the cage.
St. Bonaventure will hit the road for the first time this season as it heads to Providence, R.I. to take on Brown University. Draw time is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 25.
