Men's Soccer Concludes Season At GW, Richmond

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – After dropping its final pair of home games last weekend, the men's soccer team ends the 2011 season with a pair of road matches this weekend. Friday, the Bonnies travel to the nation's capital for a 3 p.m. battle with George Washington, followed by a 1 p.m. Sunday tilt against Richmond.

Bonaventure dropped a 2-1 decision to Temple on Sunday, extending the Bonnies' winless streak to eight games (0-5-3), dating back to a 2-1 victory over Cleveland State Sept. 21.

Heading into the final weekend of the season, sophomore midfielder James Reed continues to pace Bonaventure's scoring attack with 11 points (five assists, one goal). Classmate Emmett O'Connor supports the offense with eight points (one goal, six assists).

George Washington (7-6-2, 5-2 Atlantic 10) will enter Friday's game with the Bonnies tied with Fordham (9-6-1, 5-2 A-10) for second place in the A-10 with 15 points.

The Colonials rank near the top of the A-10 in points (4.60 per game, 4th), goals (1.53 per game, tied for 3rd) and assists (1.53 per game, 4th).

Junior forward Seth Randolph paces George Washington with eight goals, trailing only Duquesne's Joshua Patterson for the conference lead.  Randolph also leads the A-10 with five game-winning goals, the most recent of which tallied in a 2-1 victory over Rhode Island (6-10-1, 3-4-1) on Sunday. Senior forward Yoni Berhanu supports the Colonials' attack with seven goals (fourth-best in the A-10) and three assists (17 points).

Meanwhile, Richmond will enter Sunday's matchup with the Bonnies on the heels of a Friday night matchup against Duquesne (7-7-2, 4-2-1 A-10). The Spiders snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over Massachusetts (4-12-2, 2-4-2 A-10) last Saturday, moving them into 12th place in the conference with six points, out of contention for an A-10 Championship berth.

Freshman goalkeeper Thomas Hand is one of the nation's best in his rookie campaign, ranking third in NCAA Division I with 6.64 saves per game. The Spiders also rank third as a team with 6.56 saves per contest.

Offensively, sophomore midfielder Spencer Schiff leads Richmond with 11 points (three goals and five assists). Extra offensive support is provided by freshman forward Timmy Albright with a team-best four goals to compliment two assists (10 points).
