ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – After posting a 2-1 victory over Cleveland State on Wednesday, the men's soccer team (4-5) looks to return to .500 by hosting Cornell (4-1-2) on Monday at McGraw-Jennings Field in a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
The Bonnies are still in search of their first home win this season. St. Bonaventure suffered a 3-0 loss to the University at Buffalo on Aug. 26, while Canisius topped the Brown and White in a 2-1 decision Sept. 16.
Cornell enters Monday's contest in the midst of a four-game winning streak after beating Saint Joseph's, 1-0, in Philadelphia on Friday night. Furthermore, the Big Red are riding a six-game undefeated streak (4-0-2), and have not allowed a goal to be scored against them in each of their last four wins. Cornell's lone lost came in its season opener on Sept. 2 against Niagara, 3-1.
The Big Red scored their 13th goal of the season Friday night, matching the entire total from 2010. The team has scored 10 goals in its last four games, and is now on its longest win streak since the end of the 2006 and start of the 2007 season.
Forward Daniel Haber leads the team with three goals, while defender Patrick Stogic and midfielder Stephen Riesert have accumulated two goals each. Haber's nine points leads the squad, and his three assists are an Ivy League best.
Defensively, goalkeeper Rick Pflasterer leads the Ivy League with a 0.68 goals against average, and hasn't allowed a goal since a 1-1 tie with Hartwick Sept. 11.
As for the Bonnies, the club looks to even its record at .500 for the first time since it left High Point on Sept. 11 with a 3-3 mark. The squad got a step closer in that journey on Wednesday, as sophomore James Reed continued his stellar play with the game-winning goal.
Reed's tally was his fifth of the season, enough to propel the sophomore atop the Atlantic 10 in both goals and points (11). Meanwhile, Emmett O'Connor – who got credit for the secondary assist on Reed's goal – now leads the A-10 with five assists, one year after finishing with a St. Bona freshman record of seven.
After Monday's game, the last on the non-conference docket, the Bonnies will return to action Oct. 7 in the league opener against Duquesne.
