ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The Bonnies (3-9, 1-1) return to McGraw-Jennings field this Sunday for their Atlantic 10 Conference home opener against the Dukes of Duquesne (4-8, 1-1) after posting a 1-1 record last weekend in Philadelphia. SBU fell to Temple 2-1 on Friday before defeating Saint Joseph's 4-2 on Sunday.
Last Sunday the Bonnies scored four goals in a game for the first time since Oct. 27, 2006 when they defeated St. Joe's 4-1.
In the win last Sunday, junior midfielder Emmett O'Connor tied a program record with three assists in a single game. With that effort, the Ajax, Ontario native moved into sole possession of third place all-time with 18 assists for his career. The current record holder is Wally Senk '98 with 22 assists. O'Connor also set the freshman record with seven assists in 2010.
Junior Brad Vanino leads the team with three goals so far this season. Vanino also has two assists for a team leading eight points. O'Connor has five assists and one goal for seven points. Since taking over in goal, Abel Bautista is 3-3 with two shutouts. The team was 0-6 prior to Bautista took over between the pipes.
Joshua Patterson leads the Dukes with eight goals. Karter Sell has scored four goals, including three game-winners. The Dukes were beaten by Temple in Philadelphia last Sunday 2-1.
The Bonnies and Duquesne have battled to a 2-2-2 split in their last six meetings. The last two have finished as 1-1 ties.
