Men's Soccer Faces Off With Big 4 Rival Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure men's soccer team (0-1) is back in action tonight at the University at Buffalo (0-0-1) looking for their first win against a Big 4 rival (Canisius, Niagara, Buffalo) since 2010.

This will be the second of six road games to start the season for SBU. The Bonnies are looking for their first win against the Big 4 rival Bulls since 2009. On that day SBU came away with a 2-1 victory at home. Since then, St. Bonaventure has suffered a 2-1 loss at Buffalo in 2010 and a 3-0 loss last season at home.

This past Saturday, the Bonnies fell at the hands of Bowling Green 3-0 to kick off the 2012 campaign. Statistically the Bonnies outplayed the Falcons, but BGSU scored its three goals on just four shots on goal to put away the Brown and White.

Junior Brad Vanino led the offensive charge for the Bonnies playing 89 minutes and firing five shots with three being on goal.  Juniors Daniel Iannacito and James Reed each mustered two shots on goal of their own.

The Bulls lost just two starters off last year's squad and added 13 newcomers. In 2011 UB scored 26 goals on 25 assists. It returns 17 of those goals and 18 assists to the roster this season. Buffalo is coming off of a tie with Canisius on Friday. Junior Richard Craven netted the lone goal for UB during the 1-1 tie. Tuesday's matchup will be the first of a four game home stand for Buffalo.

Kick off for tonight's game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

After this matchup, the Bonnies will head south for the James Madison University Tournament in Harrisonburg, Va. While there SBU will face off with James Madison on Friday (Aug. 31) and Virginia Tech on Sunday (Sep. 2).
