ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure's Javier Ortiz and Luis Guevara (pictured) added on to their singles match winning streaks against Colgate and helped the Bonnies to a 4-3 victory on Saturday at the SBU Fitness Center.

Ortiz claimed his fourth straight victory dating back to the fall season with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Alan Pleat at No. 4 singles. Guevara, meanwhile, notched a third straight win to start the spring season via a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Alec Goldstein at third singles.

St. Bonaventure's final singles win came from senior Oscar Yanez, who battled back for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Bobby Berkowitz at second singles.

The Bonnies' top doubles tandem of Guevara and Yanez, also remained hot, moving to 2-0 on the spring and 8-4 overall with an 8-2 victory over Berkowitz and Goldstein. SBU's second doubles team of Ortiz and Elliot Fanshel added an 8-3 win over Luke Gensberg and Tom Haile. The third doubles match between SBU's Trevor Haskell and Celso de Vera Rehberger and Colgate's Mark Pronchick and Archer McFall was not completed.

The win boosts the Bonnies record to 2-1 on the season while the Raiders drop to 1-4.

In other singles matches, Fanshel, SBU's top player, suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Gensburg. The Bonnies' De Vera Rehberger and Haskell were defeated in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, by Pronchick and John Beam.

Guevara moved to a team-best 7-6 on the spring with his singles triumph, while Ortiz improved to 6-5 and Yanez to 4-8 with their wins. Fanshel and Ortiz are now 2-0 in doubles play together.

The Bonnies next hit the road to face Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. Friday.
