@BonniesMSoccer wins a nail biter over UMass-Lowell

St. Bonaventure, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's soccer team defeat the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks in a nail-biter by a score of 3-2 on a Friday, Sept. 20 matinee.

The Bonnies would be able to find the net quickly in the game after a goal within the first two minutes of the game. Nicholas Perillo dribbled the ball up in front of the 18 yard line and passed it off to Brad Beaumont. After tussling with the defender to gain possession, he would finally gain control and lobbed the ball over the goalie's head into top corner of the net.

The Riverhawks would quickly respond to the Brown and Whites goal after UMass-Lowell would earn themselves a corner kick. Kevin Zapata lined up to take the corner kick and placed it perfectly into the middle of the goalkeepers box where Kyle Garvan would get up above the defenders and head it in over the SBU goalkeeper.

Beaumont found himself in front of the net once again where he received the pass from Blagoj Dimtievski through Emmett O'Connor. The ball would end up loose inside the goalkeeper's 18 yard box and after multiple chances the Bonnies found the back of the net with Beaumont coming away with his second goal of the game.

The Riverhawks tried to become spoilers of the win by a late goal in the 79th minute by Wullito Fernandes earned himself a breakaway to find himself one-on-one with Jeremy Figler, after a quick juke move he would shoot the ball past the diving goalie to tie the game up 2-2.

With five minutes left in the game, Emmett O'Connor would lead the Bonnies to their fifth win of the season after receiving a pass from Perillo where the ball would be deflected by the UML goalie right to the feet of O'Connor where he would tap it in from 2 yards out for the 3-2 victory.

After the game Head Coach Mel Mahler added "Proud of the effort we put forth to find a way to win a difficult match. UMass-Lowell played well & give them credit for finding a way to come back twice from a goal deficit. It's great getting back on the winning track."

Bonaventure is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 22 when they take on the Rider Broncs at McGraw-Jennings Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
