@BonniesMSoccer Welcomes George Washington and VCU In A Make-Or-Break Weekend

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's soccer team welcome the George Washington Colonials and the VCU Rams this weekend in a make-or-break situation for its playoff hopes.

The Bonnies are trying to put recent results in the pass and look to the final five Atlantic 10 games of the season. Despite the winless record in conference play, St. Bonaventure is still in the hunt for the playoffs. In the A-10, the top eight schools advance, SBU is currently at the bottom with zero points, but ahead of them are Davidson, Saint Joseph's and George Washington with four points and Duquesne with three and La Salle and UMass with one. In their final five matches, the Brown and White will face-off against four (GW, SJU, La Salle and UMass) of the six teams listed above.

St. Bonaventure will play three more games at home and two on the road.

Scouting The Bonnies:

  • St. Bonaventure is coming off a disappointing loss at Big 4 Rival Buffalo on Tuesday as they allowed three goals in the first-half and one in the second en route to its 4-0 loss.  
  • The United Kingdom connection of Kieran Toland, Jaskamal Singh and Eddie Keen have led the Brown and White this season as Keen has three points, while Singh and Toland have two.
  • Senior defenders, Garrett Pasono and Nicholas Perillo, have started all 11 games for SBU. They each have registered one goal on the year.
  • In net, Jeremy Figler has started all 11 games for the Bonnies. Figler has a posted 44 saves on the year, good for seventh in the A-10.

Scouting The Colonials:

  • The George Washington Colonials enter The Marra Athletics Field Complex off a 1-1 double-overtime draw against Saint Joseph's on Sunday, Oct. 19. This was their third contest this season that went into overtime.
  • George Washington's offensive attack has been split up, with 10 different Colonials tallying goals this season.
  • Junior Keeper JP van der Merwe has been a rock between the pipes this season, as he is the lone Colonial who has started all 12 games and has logged a team-high 1,082 minutes on the field. His 52 saves are good for fifth best in the A-10.
  • Junior Phillip McQuitty, who has appeared in all 12 games, has fired a team-high 15 shots and put six of them on goal.
  • Three Colonials have scored two goals: Garrett Heine, Christian Lawal and Angel Valencia.

Scouting The Rams:

  • Prior to the game on Sunday against the Bonnies, VCU will match-up against Duquesne.
  • The Rams have faced six opponents ranked in the top 25, including #1 ranked Notre Dame.
  • Through Oct. 21, senior forward Kharlton Belmar leads the Rams offensively, with team highs in goals (four) and shots on goal (14).
  • Junior goalkeeper Garrett Cyprus has started 14 games for the Rams through Oct. 23, and has logged five shutouts on the season
