STORYLINE
The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team makes its 2017 home debut on Sunday afternoon by hosting Kent State at 1 p.m. at the Marra Athletics Complex.
HOME SWEET HOME
St. Bonaventure began the season with three straight matches on the road over the past week – at Binghamton, Youngstown State and Niagara in regional battles. Sunday will mark the first of eight scheduled home games for the Bonnies this season including three in non-conference action.
LAST TIME OUT
Two second half goals were the difference as Niagara bested visiting St. Bonaventure, 2-0, in Little Three women's soccer action Friday night. Niagara scored in the 56th and 71st minutes to put away the Bonnies, who finished with seven shot attempts. Bonnies freshmen Alex Thompson and Rachel Collins each earned their first collegiate starts while junior Tori Bernardo picked up her second career start.
ABOUT KENT STATE
Kent State was selected as the favorite in the Mid-American Conference East Division after capturing the MAC Championship and reaching the NCAA Tournament last year. All-MAC honorees Donavan Capehart and Paige Culver return from a team that set the program record with 15 victories a year ago. Capehart (6 goals, four assists) and Hayden Pascoe (6 goals, 5 assists) were the MAC's second-highest scoring duo in 2016. The Golden Flashes are 0-2 on the young season after dropping a 2-1 decision at Purdue and then falling by the same score at home vs. Cleveland State. Kent is 0-2 for the first time since 2007.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Sunday will mark the seventh all-time meeting between the Bonnies and Golden Flashes in the sport of women's soccer. Kent owns a 5-1 advantage, but the Bonnies won the last meeting – 1-0 on Aug. 24, 2014 behind a first half goal from Danielle Vis. That contest was played at Bradford, Pa.'s Parkway Field and was the last contest to be held before the Bonnies opened the newly renovated Marra Athletics Complex later that week.
UP NEXT
St. Bonaventure plays its fifth match of the month of August on Thursday night at Wright State. Wright State went 4-4-1 in the Horizon League last season.
