De Souza Goal Not Enough For Women's Soccer at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. – Despite a first half lead, the St. Bonaventure women's soccer team fell on the road at Fordham on Sunday afternoon, 4-1.

The Bonnies (3-9-2, 0-6 A-10) got on the board first as graduate student Daniela De Souza received a pass from sophomore Ekemini Udofa and found the back of the net in the 29th minute.

From that point on, Fordham (8-4-2, 3-2-1 A-10) took control of the match and began to pile on the offensive pressure.

The Rams wasted no time in evening the score as they tallied the equalizer in the 34th minute off the foot of forward Liina Tervo. The sophomore then quickly assisted a teammate just one minute later to give the hosts the advantage in a quick momentum shift.

As Bona looked to battle back into a 2-1 game coming out of the halftime break, a sudden spurt of Fordham offense made a comeback unlikely.

The Rams scored back-to-back goals in the 52nd and 53rd minutes to take complete control of the match. Tervo notched her second assist and fourth point of the day on the first of those two goals.

SBU goalkeepers Juliana Castellano and Adelaide Paredes split time in the match, each playing one full half. Castellano started and made eight saves, being relieved by Paredes who recorded seven saves of her own.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH MELISSA SHERWOOD
"Very disappointing result [in today's game] after another decent start, going ahead with a well-worked goal. We have to be tougher. We need to show more personality than that. We were soft today and I don't like describing my teams as soft."

UP NEXT
The Bonnies will return to the Marra Athletics Complex on Thursday, Oct. 16 to face Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m. with home field advantage.
