ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 setback against Saint Joseph's on a chilly Thursday evening under the lights at the Marra Athletics Complex.
Â
The Bonnies (3-10-2, 0-7 A-10) grabbed an early lead in the 13th minute after graduate student
Daniela De Souza scored an accurate strike off a free kick from the corner of the box, though the Hawks (5-9-1, 2-5 A-10) answered quickly. Chelsea Leal found an opening near the end line two minutes later and fired a cross nearly parallel to the net which deflected off a Bonaventure defender and in.
Â
Much of the remaining first half action involved battles for possession and stifled runs downfield, and neither team could break the tie until Saint Joseph's struck gold in the half's final minute. Natalee Vicari took one touch on a high-arching cross and immediately fired past SBU starting goalkeeper
Adelaide Paredes, who made four saves and played full time.
Though a red card was called on the Hawks' Juliette Muro in the 61
st minute, Bona was unable to capitalize and find a game-tying goal. Muro was assessed the booking for pulling on a Bonaventure player's hair following a duel for possession.
Â
As the Brown and White looked for an equalizer in the second half, Muro's red card provided an opportunity to strike. Unfortunately, the Bonnies were unable to capitalize, going scoreless after the break. A third score for Saint Joseph's in the 82nd minute closed the book on a possible comeback.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH MELISSA SHERWOOD
"It's tough. Once again, we got the opening goal which is a positive, but we crumbled after that. It's something that we have to fix. It was a complete lack of composure on our part. We have to look at that and analyze it after. I think maybe, coming from a place of honesty, that the players wanted it so much that they lacked composure."
