The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team continues its four-game road tilt against Saint Francis (Pa.) in a 3 p.m. matchup in Loretto, Pa. The Bonnies are coming off the losing end of a 3-1 road decision on Sunday, Sept. 24 at Marist in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. In that game, junior Kosi Nwafornso found the back of the net off a rebound to give the Bonnies their lone goal of the game.
ABOUT ST. FRANCIS
After falling to 2-3 to start the season, the Saint Francis Red Flash have won three straight games to post a 5-3 record heading into Saturday against the Bonnies. Junior Mario Mastrangelo leads the team with eight goals. Goalkeeper Marcus Rojas, a redshirt senior, has saved 20 balls, while allowing 11 goals. The Red Flash are coming off a 5-0 victory against Howard on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
A LOVE FOR OVERTIME
Ninety minutes has rarely been enough for the Bonnies and Red Flash this season. Saint Francis has battled its way through three overtime games this season, most recently back-to-back victories in a West Coast road trip for the Johann Memorial Classic in Las Vegas against UNLV and CSU-Bakersfield respectively. In the latter, Mastrangelo was the hero, scoring the game-winning goal in the 97th minute to end the desert road trip with a 2-0 record on Sept. 17.
The Bonnies have played in five overtime games this season, four of which have gone to double-overtime including the most recent 1-1 draw in Lewiston, N.Y. against the Niagara Purple Eagles.
IACOBELLIS NEARS CAREER HIGH
After nearly tying his career-high in saves in a single game with a 12-save performance against Marist, junior goalkeeper Luke Iacobellis enters Saturday's game with 49 saves this season, 11 stops away from tying his single-season career high of 60 set during the 2016 season. Last Sunday's game was the first time Iacobellis had reached double-digits in saves this season.
PDL TEAMMATES TIED IN SHOTS
Senior Paul Afful and junior Kosi Nwafornso enter Saturday's game tied in shots this season with 24. Afful and Nwafornso spent their summer playing together for the Charlotte Eagles of the Premier Development League, the top amateur soccer league in the U.S.
