On Saturday, November 17th, the #18 St. Bonaventure University Bonnies took on the #12 Iona College Gaels at Fairfield University in Connecticut. The Bonnies started the game out fast by scoring first and really putting the pressure on Iona defensively. It would be all Bonas in the first half going into halftime up 31-15.
Iona would not go down that easily though. They came out in the second half firing on all cylinders. Iona scored three unanswered tries in the second half taking the lead 36-31. The Bonnies continued to fight back, and senior prop and vice captain Kyle "Potroast" Ciquera carried it over the line for his second try on the day giving the Bonnies back the lead, 38-36. Iona wasn't finished yet either as they scored on the 75th minute of the match to make it 43-38 with only 5 minutes left in the game. But the Bonnies never gave up, and on the 78th minute they got the ball back and Kyle Ciquera completed his hat-trick by scoring the game tying try making it 43-43. Sophomore wing Josh Smith slotted the conversion to make it 45-43, and all the Bonnies had to do was receive the kick off and kick it out of bounds to complete the win!
It was a hard fought game on both ends, but at the end of the day #18 St. Bonaventure upset #12 Iona 45-43 (http://d1arugby.com/news/week-13-rankings-a-change-in-process/). This was the last game for St. Bonaventure for the fall season, and it was a great way to end a breakout year for the Bonnies.
