Men's Soccer Hosts Army and La Salle This Week

The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team continues its homestand with a pair of matches at the Marra Athletics Complex this week. The Bonnies begin the week with a contest against Army Tuesday, Oct. 12 and then host Atlantic 10 foe La Salle Saturday, Oct. 16. Tuesday's game will serve as Senior Day.

LAST WEEK'S ACTION
The Bonnies got back in the win column last Wednesday at George Mason when Francesco Caorsi soared in with a diving header in double overtime for the golden goal, giving the Brown and White a 2-1 victory. Fredrik Hansen also scored for the Bonnies against the Patriots, which tied the game for the Bonnies midway through the second half.

Bona's returned home to host Saint Joseph's last Saturday, falling to the Hawks 1-0. Justyn Sandhu made five saves in net for the Bonnies.

ATLANTIC 10 STANDINGS
With four conference games remaining, St. Bonaventure is currently tied for eighth place with Dayton in the Atlantic 10 standings with six points. Duquesne and Davidson are just ahead with seven points in the standings.

The top eight teams in the final standings advance to the 2021 Atlantic 10 Tournament.

SENIOR DAY
Prior to Tuesday's game against Army, the Bonnies will honor their seven graduating student-athletes – Trevor Wilson, Francesco Caorsi, Jaaziel Thompson, Fredrik Hansen, Cuneyt Vardar, Isaac Boamah and Jacob Jashinski.

The seven seniors have combined to play in 220 games for the Bonnies throughout their careers. Caorsi, Hansen and Boamah have all scored this season for the Brown and White while Caorsi also leads the Bonnies with three assists. Thompson and Jashinski have played 929 and 892 minutes, respectively, on the backline this season. Wilson has made 20 saves this season in four starts, earning a shutout against Davidson Sept. 18. Vardar this season has played in all 10 games, making four starts.

Wilson hails from Lake Oswego, Ore. and has spent three seasons with the Bonnies, making 15 starts in net and tallying 74 career saves.

Caorsi joined the Bonnies in 2019-20 and has missed only one start in three seasons, starting in 31 out of 32 career games played in the midfield. A native of Genova, Italy, he has four goals and five assists for his career.

Thompson has started every game for the Bonnies since joining the program three seasons ago, starting all 31 games he was available for. Thompson hails from Kingston, Jamaica.

In 51 career games with the Bonnies, Hansen has eight goals and four assists for his career. The Oslo, Norway native has made 37 starts in the midfield and has one career game-winning goal.

Vardar is from Webster, N.Y. and has spent four seasons with the Bonnies, scoring four goals and registering four assists in 45 career games. Vardar is a health science major.

A native of Kumasi, Ghana, Boamah was selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team in 2018 and has scored four goals for his career. In 42 games played, Boamah also has three assists and two game-winning goals.

Jashinski is a four-year member of the men's soccer program and has played in 48 career games, making 21 starts. A Pittsburgh, Pa. native, Jashinski has started 16 out of 18 games the past two seasons. He is a finance major.

ABOUT ARMY
Army enters Tuesday's contest with an overall record of 6-4-1 and our 3-2 in Patriot League play. The Black Knights are coming off a pair of losses to Navy (3-0) and Lehigh (2-1), but won their three previous matches against Boston U (2-0), Bucknell (2-1) and Colgate (3-0). Army was picked to finish 10th in the Patriot League preseason poll.

Oscar Pereira leads the Black Knights in goals and assists with five each for 15 points. Andrew Guerra has registered nine points on the year for Army with four goals and one assist. In net, Jacob Suppiah has earned the majority of the playing time with eight starts, making 27 saves.

ABOUT LA SALLE
The Explorers enter the week with a record of 3-8-0 overall and are 0-4-0 in Atlantic 10 play. La Salle has lost three straight matches, falling to Davidson (4-2), VCU (2-1) and Duquesne (3-0). The Explorers have wins over St. Francis Brooklyn (1-0), Rider (4-2) and NJIT (2-1). La Salle was picked to finish ninth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.

Junior Nare leads the Explorers with four goals and one assist this season while Nigel Buckley has three goals and two assists for La Salle. It has been a three-person rotation in net for La Salle with Carlos Mora making five starts to lead the goalkeepers. Mora has made 20 stops on the year.

UP NEXT
The Bonnies head out on the road for a matchup with Duquesne Wednesday, Oct. 20. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
