ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to Saint Joseph's, 77-70, Friday evening at the Reilly Center despite four Bonnies scoring in double figures.
Asianae Johnson finished with a team-high 24 points on 10-of-19 shooting while also pulling down seven rebounds to lead the Bonnies. Also scoring in double figures for the Bonnies was I'yanna Lops who posted a career-high 18 points. Tori Harris and Maddie Dziezgowski each added 11 tallied for the Brown and White.
In the third, Johnson was able to convert in close, putting the Bonnies up 50-44 with 4:44 left in the period.
The Hawks used a 9-0 over the final 4:24 of the third to take a 53-50 edge into the final quarter.
Harris' 3-pointer with 6:37 remaining in the game gave the Bonnies a 59-57 lead.
The Hawks retook the lead two possessions later, 61-59, with 5:40 left on the clock.
Taylor Napper converted a pair of free throws for the Bonnies, tying the score at 61-61.
Saint Joseph's (6-10, 2-2 A-10) responded with a quick 6-0 spurt and never looked back.
The Hawks made all eight free throws down the stretch to earn the road victory.
The was the Lops show in the first half for the Bonnies Friday, scoring 16 of her 18 points in the first 20 minutes.
Lops scored eight out of the first nine points for the Bonnies in the first quarter, pulling the hosts even early 9-9.
In the second quarter, Harris gave the Bonnies their first lead since the opening minutes, 24-22, after cutting through the lane for a layup.
Saint Joseph's Mackenzie Smith's layup with eight second left in the first half brought the teams level at the break, 37-37.
The Bonnies (8-8, 0-5 A-10) are back in action Sunday, Jan. 23 at George Mason. Tip is slated for 12:00 p.m. and will be aired nationally on CBS Sports Network.
GAME NOTES
- Johnson has now tallied 20 or more points in three straight contests. She now has seven career games of 20 or more points.
- The Bonnies were outrebounded by the Hawks, 36-29.
- Bona's won the battle in the paint, outscoring Saint Joseph's 42-30.
- The Brown and White finished the night shooting 49.2 percent (29-for-59) from the floor, the highest shooting percent of the season. The Hawks shot 43.3 percent (26-for-60) from the field.
