Fourth Quarter Surge Propels Duquesne Over Bonnies

PITTSBURGH – A 15-0 fourth quarter run from host Duquesne took a back-and-forth game and allowed the Dukes to surge to a 63-44 victory over St. Bonaventure women's basketball Saturday afternoon at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.

I'yanna Lops and Ene Adams each tallied 10 points in the contest to lead the Bonnies. Lops also grabbed eight rebounds and rejected four shots in the game.

Down just a point when the Dukes went on their run, the Bonnies were held scoreless for the final 5:34 of the fourth to pull away for good.

The Bonnies (8-5, 0-2 Atlantic 10) came out firing in the third quarter, cutting their eight point halftime deficit to just three, 29-26, following a layup from Adams.

Nikki Oppenheimer sparked the Bona offense with a pair of threes in the quarter. Her second one of the quarter with 3:24 on the clock pulled the Bonnies back within one, 38-37.

Asianae Johnson gave the visitors their first lead since the opening minutes of the game with a reverse layup with 2:15 left in the third, 39-38. Duquesne would outscore the Bonnies 23-5 during the fourth quarter, however, to claim victory.

It was a back-and-forth first 10 minutes of action Saturday as the two teams were deadlocked 11-11 after one.

Adams provided a spark off the bench for the Bonnies, scoring five points in the first period.

It was all Duquesne in the second quarter, outscoring the Bonnies 16-8 in the period to take a 27-19 advantage into halftime.

Fatou Pouye posted 16 points to lead Duquesne (6-9, 1-2).

The Bonnies are back at home for the first time in a month Wednesday, Jan. 12 when they host Davidson. Tip is slated for 6:00 p.m.
