Men's Soccer Visits Duquesne Wednesday; Travels to UMass Saturday

The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team is set for a pair of road games this week at Duquesne and at UMass. The Bonnies travel to take on the Dukes in a non-conference matchup Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 6:00 p.m. before heading to UMass to battle the Minutemen in A-10 action Saturday, Oct. 15 at 12:00 p.m.

BONNIES NOTES

  • The Bonnies earned their first point in the Atlantic 10 standings with a 1-1 draw with No. 16 Dayton last Wednesday. Sophomore Matthew Wrobel netted to equalizer in the 77th minute off feeds from C.J. Takatch and Peter Massaquoi.
  • Wrobel leads the Bonnies and ranks third in the Atlantic 10 this season with six goals.
  • Junior goalkeeper Jules Dechert matched his season-high with seven saves against the Flyers. He has made 29 saves in six starts this season, ranking fifth in the Atlantic 10 with a .784 save percentage.
  • Wednesday's game marked the first point for the Bonnies against a ranked team since 2017 when the Bonnies beat No. 22 VCU, 2-1, in the regular season finale.
  • The Bonnies and the Dukes are slated for a non-conference matchup Wednesday evening as both teams had a scheduled conference bye for both teams.

ABOUT DUQUESNE

  • The Dukes come into Wednesday's non-conference match with an overall record of 8-1-3 and are 3-0-2 in Atlantic 10 play. Duquesne's only defeat of the season was a 1-0 decision on the road at No. 25 Akron Sept. 28. The Dukes were picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll. Duquesne enters the week sitting atop the Atlantic 10 standings with 11 points.
  • Ask Ekeland leads the way offensively for Duquesne with four goals and an assist for nine points. Nate Dragisich leads the team and is second in the Atlantic 10 with six assists on the year. As a team, the Dukes are outscoring opponents 19-5 this season.
  • In net, Domenic Nascimben leads the A-10 in saves (54), shutouts (7) and save percentage (.915). He has made four or more saves in all but three games this season.

ABOUT UMASS

  • The Minutemen enter the week with unbeaten with a 6-0-6 overall record and are 1-0-4 in A-10 play. UMass earned an Atlantic 10 victory over George Washington, 4-1, last Wednesday in Washington, D.C. UMass has greatly surpassed preseason expectations, being picked to finish ninth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll. UMass currently sits in fifth in the Atlantic 10 standings.
  • Alec Hughes leads UMass and the Atlantic 10 in goals (8) and points (18). Hughes has also added a pair of assists on the year. Nick Zielonka (four goals, two assists) and Evan Fournier (three goals, four assists) each have 10 points for UMass.
  • Matt Zambetti has started 11 games in net for UMass, making 35 saves on the season which ranks sixth in the Atlantic 10. His .814 save percentage is good for third in the A-10.

  • The Bonnies are off until Saturday, Oct. 22 when they travel to take on Saint Joseph's at 5:00 p.m.
