ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team fell, 1-0, at home Sunday afternoon against UMass.
The Minutewomen (4-5-5, 3-1-2 A-10) kicked off the scoring in the 35
th minute with what would be the only goal of the contest.
Olivia Gouldsbury sent a corner kick into the box past a slew of Bonnies defenders and right to the foot of Grace Pinkus who converted her shot to take a 1-0 advantage.
The Bonnies (2-5-6, 0-5-1 A-10) had multiple chances in the second half to even the score, but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net.
In the 60
th minute,
McKenna Robinson sent a ball into the box to
Cristina Torres who had her shot blocked. The ball carried back to
Ami Komori and her shot sailed over the crossbar.
Six minutes later
Kenzie Tarmino booted a free kick to the foot of Robinson who slipped past the keeper, but her shot was blocked by a UMass defender. The ball went back to
Clare Davis who fired a shot into the hands of the Minutewomen goalkeeper.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Chiara Gottinger matched her career-high with 13 saves Sunday, which she previously matched this season at Niagara. Currently, she sits second in the nation in total saves. Sunday's contest marks her eighth game this season with nine or more saves.
Torres recorded a team-high three shots for St. Bonaventure, while Lauren Bonavita tallied six shots for the Minutewomen.
UMass goalkeeper Bella Mendoza finished with seven saves.
The Bonnies will go on the road for a matchup at Rhode Island on Sunday, Oct. 9. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
