Rhode Island Bests Bonnies, 2-1

KINGSTON, R.I. – The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team fell, 2-1, at Rhode Island Sunday afternoon.

Rhode Island (2-7-6, 1-3-3 A-10) netted the first goal of the game in the 18th minute.

Emma Derry sent a ball to Cristina Sallent who chipped her shot over the head of goalkeeper Bona's Chiara Gottinger to take a 1-0 lead.

The Bonnies (2-6-6, 0-6-1 A-10) answered back in the 29th minute when Ami Komori registered a shot off of the Rams' goalkeeper and Bridget Kennedy collected the rebound in front, tapping it into the back of the net to tie the game at one apiece.

The score marks the second goal of the season for Kennedy.

The Rams registered the game-winner by taking a 2-1 lead in the 60th minute. Brooke Cavino fired a shot just before the box that snuck under the diving try of Gottinger.

Kennedy made another key play for the Bonnies when she booted a ball away from the net when a Rhode Island forward dribbled by Gottinger, attempting to score the Rams third goal of the game.

Gottinger finished with 10 stops Sunday afternoon, bringing her nation leading total to 121 saves this season. This marks her ninth games this year with nine or move saves.

The second-year goalkeeper now sits 12th all-time for most saves in a season. She passes Lauren Malcolm, who recorded 120 saves in 2017.

Last season, Gottinger made 119 saves to put herself 13th on the all-times list.

Rhode Island had a team-high five shots from Cristina Sallent.

The Bonnies remain on the road for a matchup at George Washington on Thursday, Oct. 13. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m.
