CLEVELAND – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to Georgia State, 66-51, Friday evening at the Viking Invitational at the Wolstein Center.
Maddie Dziezgowski tallied 13 points and six rebounds to lead the Bonnies while Claire Cody chipped in a career-high 10 points.
I'yanna Lops pushed the Bonnies lead to three, 33-30, right out of the halftime break after a converted jumper from the elbow.
Mikyla Tolivert made a pair of free throws with 6:07 left in the third period to retake the lead, 38-37.
The Panthers (3-4) would not relinquish the lead again, pulling ahead by as many as 17 points in the fourth quarter.
Georgia State outscored the Bonnies in the second half, 36-20, earning the victory.
After falling behind by 11 early in the second period, the Bonnies used a 9-0 spurt to pull ahead by one, 25-24 with 4:54 remaining in the first half.
The Bonnies (1-4) and Panthers continued to trade baskets with Bona's taking a 31-30 edge into the halftime break.
The Bonnies scored the first five points of the contest Friday, but Georgia State used an 18-4 run over the remaining seven minutes of the first to take a 18-9 lead.
Tolivert tallied 22 points for Georgia State to lead all scorers.
The Bonnies conclude the Viking Invitational Saturday, Nov. 26 when they take on host Cleveland State at 4:00 p.m.
GAME NOTES
- The Bonnies finished the contest shooting 35.6 percent (16-for-45) from the floor while Georgia State shot 42.1 percent (24-for-57).
- I'yanna Lops recorded her 68th career block Friday, moving into a tie for fifth all-time in Bonnies history with Lisa Vizzoca (1992-96).
- Redshirt junior Claire Cody reached double figures for the first time in her career with 10 points, making 5-of-6 shots from the charity stripe.
