MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team could not overcome an early deficit, falling to Robert Morris, 63-39, Friday night at the UPMC Events Center.
Maddie Dziezgowski led the Bonnies with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc in her first game since Nov. 30, missing the last four games due to injury.
Robert Morris came out of the gate firing on all cylinders, making four out of the first five shots, including three from beyond the arc to run out to a 15-0 lead.
The Colonials held the Bonnies to 1-of-13 shooting in the first quarter, holding the visitors without a made field goal for 9:59 of the period and taking a commanding 19-4 advantage after one.
The Bonnies looked to swing momentum in the second quarter, pulling back within 10 with buckets form Kirah Dandridge and Nadechka Laccen, but the Colonials squashed the early rally with a jump shot with eight minutes showing on the clock.
The Colonials (7-4) closed the second period on an 18-3 run over the final 8:33 of the half, opening up a 25-point lead at the break.
It was more of the same in the second half as the Colonials held on to their double-digit cushion, earning the victory.
The Bonnies (3-9) face a quick turnaround and are back in action Sunday, Dec. 19 on the road at Marshall. Tip is slated for 1:00 p.m.
