HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Marshall finished the game on an 11-0 run to take a 61-53 victory over the St. Bonaventure women's basketball team Sunday afternoon at the Cam Henderson Center.
I'yanna Lops led the Bonnies with 13 points and eight rebounds while Tianna Johnson chipped in 11 points and pulled down four rebounds.
Bona's opened the second half with a barrage of threes, opening up a 13-point cushion, 38-25, with 6:23 showing on the clock in the third quarter.
The Thundering Herd (6-4) would not go away quietly as they stormed back to take the lead, 39-38, thanks to a 14-0 run in the third.
The Bonnies (3-10) looked to snatch momentum from the hosts with a Johnson three and a Kirah Dandridge layup to push the Bonnies ahead, 43-39.
Terah Harness' three right before the third quarter horn sounded pulled the Thundering Herd within one heading into the final period.
Roshala Scott started the scoring for Marshall in the fourth with an old-fashioned three-point play, giving the Thundering Herd a two-point lead, 45-43.
Johnson would score five straight points for the Brown and White with under five minutes to play, pushing the Bonnies back ahead, 53-50.
That would be the last points for the Bonnies as Marshall clamped down on defense, holding the Bonnies without a point over the final 4:35 of the contest, pulling ahead for the comeback victory.
The Bonnies started the game 7-for-15 from the field, including a trio of 3-pointers.
I'yanna Lops capped off a 10-0 run to end the first period, draining her second three of the quarter.
Marshall, however, started to warmup in the second frame, using an 8-0 spurt to open the second quarter and pulling within three, 20-17.
Lops and Dziezgowski combined for seven out of the final nine points of the first half, giving the Bonnies a 29-22 advantage at halftime.
Scott scored all 14 of her points in the second half, leading all scorers.
The Bonnies are back at home Wednesday, Dec. 21, hosting Colgate at 1:00 p.m. at the Reilly Center.
GAME NOTES
- The Bonnies finished the afternoon shooting 30.9 percent (17-for-55) from the field while Marshall ended the contest at a 32.1 percent (18-for-56) shooting clip.
- Redshirt junior Kaitlyn Parker led the Bonnies with nine rebounds, marking the third straight game in which she has pulled down at least eight rebounds.
