Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Wildcats Hold Off Bonnies, 81-76

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Visiting Davidson used a 22-4 run spanning the end of the first half and opening five minutes of the second half to take control and held off a valiant rally effort by St. Bonaventure for an 81-76 decision Tuesday night at the Reilly Center.

Davidson's largest lead of 16 was trimmed to just three, 79-76, with 10 seconds remaining.

Forced to foul, the Bonnies sent Foster Loyer to the line where he made two to ice the game in the waning moments.

Jalen Adaway, who was a game time decision due to a stomach bug, pulled through with a team-best 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Kyle Lofton made a run at a triple-double, finishing with 19 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Dominick Welch checked in with 18 points.

The squads were never separated by more than five points during the first half, sharing seven ties while swapping the lead seven times as well.

Kyle Lofton kept the Bonnies energized, finishing the first 20 minutes just short of a double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds. Davidson would connect on seven of 19 3-point tries before intermission, though, to take a 34-29 edge to halftime.

The Wildcats would continue their surge out of the locker room, opening the second half on a 6-0 run to stretch their lead to double digits for the first time, 40-29, just two minutes into the period.

Before their game-changing run was over, it would be a 47-31 advantage as the Wildcats methodically seized all momentum.

St. Bonaventure (12-6, 4-3) would chip away to a nine-point deficit thanks to back-to-back buckets from Adaway with 5:30 remaining, but a Loyer trey ended that rally attempt.

Bona's would close within eight again following a steal and layup from Lofton, but again, Davidson would quiet the crowd with another shot from beyond the arc.

Davidson (18-3, 8-1) finished with 12 three-pointers. Loyer posted 21 points and seven assists while Hyunjung Lee delivered 18.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH MARK SCHMIDT
"You cannot get down 16 to a team like Davidson. Our guys did a good job getting back into the game. They hit big shots when they needed to. We made some mistakes and they made shots off of our mistakes. They hit some contested threes, which is what they do. Other than three-point shooting we did a good job.

"The game is 40 minutes and you have to keep playing no matter what, and I knew our guys were going to fight. We take it one game at a time and our sights are on Richmond. We will watch the tape and get better at the things we do well and improve on the things we didn't do well."
