WASHINGTON, D.C. –A cold-shooting fourth quarter proved to be the difference as the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell at George Washington, 60-47, Saturday in the nation's capital.
Bona led by double digits in the second half, but GW finished the game on a 31-7 run and scored the final 16 points while limiting the Bonnies to just two points in the fourth quarter.
Asianae Johnson led the way for the Bonnies offensively, finishing with a team-high 17 points to go along with three rebounds. Also in double figures for the Brown and White was Tori Harris who added 12 points for the visitors.
St. Bonaventure (12-11, 4-8 A-10) came out hot to start the second half, carrying their first half momentum out of the locker room.
The Bonnies opened up a 40-29 advantage in the third quarter after a Harris and-one.
The Colonials (9-14, 2-8) battled to make it an eight-point game at the end of three, 45-37.
A 12-2 run to begin the fourth gave the Colonials since they led 8-6 in the first quarter, pulling ahead 50-47 and forcing a Bona's timeout. GW never let off the gas pedal down the stretch, outscoring Bona's 23-2 in the final period.
The Bonnies made a trio of 3-pointers in the first quarter to take an 11-8 lead after one.
Bona's lead grew to 10, 20-10, midway through the second thanks to a 7-0 run capped off by a Lops hook shot inside.
GW battled back with an 8-0 run following a timeout to bring them back within two, 20-18.
The Bonnies, however, went on a second 7-0 run of the quarter to pull ahead, 27-22, at halftime.
Bona's is back in action Wednesday, Feb. 16 on the road at VCU. Tip is slated for 6:00 p.m.
GAME NOTES
- St. Bonaventure finished the contest shooting 32.2 percent (19-for-59) from the field and GW shot 37.5 percent (24-for-64) from the floor.
- The Colonials outrebounded the Bonnies, 47-39, Saturday afternoon.
- I'yanna Lops grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Bonnies.
