Bonnies Tripped By VCU, 57-49

RICHMOND, Va. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to VCU, 57-49, Wednesday evening at the Siegel Center.

Tori Harris tallied her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Asianae Johnson chipped in 12 points while Tianna Johnson added nine points and seven rebounds.

Chloe Bloom gave the Rams their first lead of the game, 48-47, on the first possession of the final period.

Johnson picked up her fifth personal foul just 30 seconds into the fourth quarter, forcing the Bonnies to play the final 9:30 without their leading scorer and proving to be the turning point in the contest.

The VCU lead grew to 11 after a 3-pointer with just under four minutes to play.

Harris' three with 2:44 on the clock cut the Bonnies deficit to eight, 53-45.

That is all the closer the Bonnies would get as the Rams pushed their lead back to double-digits on the next possession.

VCU caught fire coming out of halftime, hitting on 50 percent of its shots in the third while the Bonnies were held to just 30 percent in the quarter.

Sarah Te-Biasu's 3-pointer as the third quarter horn sounded, bringing the Rams within one, 37-36.

Defense was the name of the game in the second period as the Bonnies jumped out to a double-digit, 24-13, lead at halftime. Bona's held VCU without a field goal over the final 7:06 of the half.

Johnson and Harris combined for 18 of the Bonnies' 24 first half points.

The Bonnies held the Rams to just 18.8 percent from the floor in the first quarter Wednesday, taking a 13-8 advantage after 10 minutes.

Bona's is back in action Sunday, Feb. 20, hosting Duquesne at the Reilly Center. Tip is slated for 12:00 p.m.
