Second-Half Shooting Sends Duquesne Past Bonnies

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team could not survive Duquesne's hot-shooting in the second half, falling 99-75 Sunday at the Reilly Center.

Asianae Johnson tallied a team-high 19 points while Tianna Johnson registered a career-high 14 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists. Also in double figures for the Bonnies was Maddie Dziezgowski with 12 points and I'yanna Lops added 10 tallies.

Duquesne shot 58 percent (22-for-38) in the second half, outscoring the Bonnies 62-33 to earn the win.

The Dukes grabbed their first lead since the first quarter with 7:27 showing on the clock in the third quarter and Duquesne's lead quickly ballooned to double-digits following a 17-2 midway through the third.

The Bonnies (12-13, 4-10 A-10) were able to pull back within five after Johnson's basket on the first possession of the final quarter.

That is all the closer the hosts would get as Duquesne used a 13-0 run to take a commanding lead it would not relinquish. Duquesne led by as many as 25 in the fourth Sunday.

The Bonnies and the Dukes (11-15, 6-8 A-10) traded blows in a first half that saw the Brown and White leading, 42-38, at the break.

Bona's got out of the gate quick, taking a 9-2 lead in the opening minutes that forced Duquesne to call a timeout. The Bonnies were a perfect 4-for-4 in the first from beyond the arc, leading 24-21 after the first 10 minutes.

The Bonnies are back in action in their final road game of the season, traveling to Rhode Island Wednesday, Feb. 23. Tip is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
