Women's Basketball Hosts George Mason On Senior Day Saturday

The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team closes out the regular season Saturday, Feb. 26 against George Mason at the Reilly Center. Tip is slated for 12:00 p.m.

Prior to the start of Saturday's game, the Bonnies will honor seniors Asianae Johnson and Tori Harris.

OPENING TIP

  • The Bonnies come into Saturday's regular season finale off a loss to Rhode Island Wednesday, 67-54. Asianae Johnson led Bona's with 17 points and six rebounds. I'yanna Lops chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds while Tori Harris added 11 tallies.
  • Bona's trailed the Rams by just four at halftime, but the Rhode Island defense clamped down in the second half, allowing the hosts to pull away.

SENIOR DAY

  • The Bonnies are set to honor senior captains Asianae Johnson and Tori Harris Saturday afternoon at the Reilly Center.
  • Johnson is a four-year starter for the women's basketball team and has been an integral part in the lineup since stepping on campus. Johnson has played in 106 out of 107 games since her freshman season, starting in 105 of those games. Johnson has led the Bonnies in scoring the last three seasons, seeing her scoring average jump nearly five points as a senior to 18.0 points per game. Johnson went on a memorable run earlier this season, setting a program record with eight straight games of 20 or more points. She currently ranks 13th on the Bonnies all-time scoring list with 1,404 points, becoming the 23rd player in St. Bonaventure history to score 1,000 points against Canisius earlier this year. Johnson also ranks seventh all-time with 335 made free throws and 76 double-figure scoring performances. Johnson currently ranks second in the Atlantic 10 in scoring and her 19.6 points per game during conference play also ranks second. She leads all A-10 guards and ranks fifth overall in field goal percentage. Johnson also leads the A-10 in made free throws and is third in free throw percentage this season.
  • Harris is a three-year member of the women's basketball program and has started all 47 games for the Bonnies over the last two seasons. As a redshirt junior, Harris averaged 11 points per game and scored in double figures 14 times. She also recorded a team-high five double-doubles. This season, she is averaging 33.2 minutes per game and is scoring 10.7 points per contest. Harris has scored in double figures 17 times this season and registered three double-doubles.

SERIES HISTORY

  • The Bonnies and the Patriots meet for the 13th time overall and second time this season Saturday. The Brown and White has won five straight meeting between the schools, taking a road contest Jan. 23, 81-74, at EagleBank Arena. The Bonnies and the Patriots last met at the Reilly Center Jan. 12, 2020, with Bona's coming out on top, 62-47, behind 20 points from Dajah Logan.

SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS

  • George Mason enters Saturday 8-18 overall and 2-12 in Atlantic 10 play. The Patriots have lost six straight and 15 out of 17 overall with their lone A-10 wins coming against George Washington (52-46) and Davidson (58-50). George Mason, however, does have a win over Power 5 opponent Florida this season, 75-71.
  • The Patriots are coached by Vanessa Blair-Lewis who is in her first season as head coach at George Mason. Blair-Lewis comes to Fairfax following 13 seasons as head coach at Bethune-Cookman, guiding the Wildcats to their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth in 2019.
  • Amaya Scott paces the Patriots' offense, averaging 15.9 points per game in her first year with the program after transferring from Bethune-Cookman. Scott also leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 6.3 boards per game along with Jazmyn Doster who also grabs 6.3 rebounds per contest.

UP NEXT

  • The Bonnies will head to the 2022 Atlantic 10 Tournament March 2-5 at the CHASE Fieldhouse in Wilmington, Del. The official tournament bracket is scheduled to be released late Saturday evening. St. Bonaventure will play in the opening round Wednesday.
