ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's lacrosse team dropped its home opener against Colgate, 16-6, Saturday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.
It was a tale of two halves for the Bona women.
The first half was a tough defensive battle that ended with Colgate holding a 5-2 lead.
Freshman
Katelyn Rokitka and junior
Sarah Owens registered their first goals of the season in the first half.
Colgate held just a 4-2 edge with three minutes left in before halftime when Cara O'Reilly scored for the Raiders.
Colgate (1-3) maintained possession for most of the second half, which was the difference of the game.
The Raiders won the draw control battle, 15-2, in the second half to help them score 11 goals.
O'Reilly led the way for the Raiders with four goals and seven draw controls, while Devon Maillet and Catie Lang each chipped in three goals. Catie Lang posted eight draw controls for the Raiders as well.
Amelia Cunningham recorded six saves for the Raiders.
Abby Hiltz continues her strong start to the season by scoring her fifth goal of the season and tallying her fifth assist of the season, while
Maddie Mazur,
Kassi Hogan, and
Courtney Fox each recorded a goal this afternoon.

Ashley Herrick made 15 saves for the Bonnies, just off her career-high of 18 set as a freshman
The Bonnies will remain at home to take on Bucknell on Saturday, March 5. Start time is set for 3:00 p.m.
