ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Seven second half goals by the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team were not enough in comeback attempt against Bucknell Saturday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.
Katelyn Rokitka tallied a hat trick for the Bonnies while
Kassi Hogan and
Sarah Owens each registered two goals apiece.
St. Bonaventure (0-5) fell behind the visiting Bison by a 7-1 at the end of the first half with their lone goal coming from junior
Sarah Owens, who registered her second and third goals of the season during the day.
Katelyn Rokitka would help lead the Bonnies comeback attempt with three goals in the second half as she posted her second, third, and fourth goals of the year.
Kassi Hogan and
Rebecca Howe also put the ball in the back of the net for the Bonnies as they turned the tide.
In the fourth period, St. Bonaventure would outscore Bucknell by a 5-0 tally, pulling within two on a goal from Howe with 1:08 to play. The Bison would win the following draw, though, and were able to silence the clock.
Owens led the team with eight shots with six of them being on goal, while junior
Teri Manzelli scooped up a team-high four groundballs.
In the cage,
Ashley Herrick made 15 saves for the Bonnies.
Bona outshot Bucknell 17-14 after halftime, but the Bison finished with a 34-29 shot margin in total. The Bonnies were successful in 21 of 23 clear attempts.
Bucknell (3-1) was led by Allie Boyce with three goals, while Laurel McHale and Caroline Miller had two goals each.
Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Tucker tallied 14 saves.
The Bonnies welcome to town Little Three rival Canisius on Saturday, March 12. The game is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
