Bonnies Get First A-10 Win in Weekend Series at Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure University softball team earned a victory over Dayton in a three-game Atlantic 10 series Saturday and Sunday at UD Softball Stadium.

The Bonnies took the rain-delayed game one, 6–2. The Flyers rebounded in game two, taking a 9-1 decision from the Bonnies and Dayton was able to grab the series finale in five innings, 11-3.

Game 1 – St. Bonaventure 6, Dayton 2
Perechinsky got the scoring started for the Bonnies in the top of the second with her first home run of the season, a solo shot to center field, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.

The Bonnies were able to tack on a pair of runs in the third on back-to-back RBI doubles from Kennedy Haberl and Haley Strang.

Saturday's contest was halted in the top of the fourth inning with one out due to rain.

Bona's bats picked up right where they left off Sunday afternoon when Haberl slapped a single to left-center, bringing around Samanthan Moll to make it a four-run ballgame.

Perechinsky struck again in the top of the sixth with her second solo blast of the game, putting the game out of reach for the Flyers. The fifth-year first baseman worked a two-out bases-loaded walk in the top of the seventh for her third RBI of the contest.

Ally Haskell earned the start for the Bonnies, tossing a complete game with a season-high six strikeouts for her first victory of the season.

Brooke Bobbey also tallied a double at the leadoff spot for the Brown and White.

Game 2 – Dayton 9, St. Bonaventure 1 (5 Innings)
The Flyers were able to take momentum early in game two, scoring three runs in the opening frame. Grace Gressly singled home a pair and then Kaelene Walter brought the third run home on a sacrifice fly.

The hosts tacked on two more in the bottom of the second on a pair of RBI doubles.

The Bonnies pulled one back in the top of the third when Strang belted her first home run of the season, cutting the deficit to 5-1.

Dayton scored four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn the victory.

Emily Phalen got the ball in game two, working 4.1 innings, striking out six while scattering eight hits. Haskell entered in relief, allowing a pair of hits.

Game 3 – Dayton 11, St. Bonaventure 3 (5 Innings)
Dayton carried its momentum from game two into the series finale, taking an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first.

The Flyers (8-13, 4-2 A-10) brought around four runs in the bottom of the second, taking a 7-0 lead.

The Bonnies (2-13, 1-5 A-10) tried to spark a rally in the top of the fourth, scoring two off an RBI double from Moll.

Dayton, however, quickly responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning extend its lead back to seven, 9-2.

A wild pitch allowed the Bonnies to pull within six in the top of the fifth but the Flyers scored on a double and a single in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Elizabeth Lis got the start in Sunday's finale, pitching 3.1 innings and allowed no walks. Tierney Fitzgerald worked 1.1 innings in relief and scattered four hits.

The Bonnies make their 2022 home debut Saturday, March 26 against George Washington with a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m.
