BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – To say that Sunday afternoon's game between St. Bonaventure and Detroit Mercy was a barn burner is an understatement.
It took double overtime to decide this contest.
Junior
Sarah Owens finally ended it with the clock running down in the second overtime.
A Detroit Mercy turnover led to a Bonnies push down field and
Abby Hiltz made a nice pass to Owens who put the game-winner in the back of the net with one second left on the clock.
"So proud of the compete level our group showed today," Levesque said on the victory. "We're getting closer and closer to playing a full 60 minutes. We've been in these games a couple times this season and have let them slip away, or fallen short. We still have plenty of room for growth, room for improvement in many areas. Today though, they earned this win as a team; really happy for them."
Owens finished the game with three goals, none more critical than her game-winner to give St. Bonaventure their first victory of the season.
The Bonnies (1-5) were led to overtime by dominant play in the second half.
Trailing 10-6 after the first half, St. Bonaventure outscored Detroit Mercy 11-6 in the second half to send the game to overtime.
St. Bonaventure tied the game for the first time in the second half with a fourth period goal from freshman
Fiona McGovern.
McGovern scored three goals on the afternoon, which are the first of her collegiate career.
The comeback was complete with a pair of goals from sophomore
Kassi Hogan.
Hogan came up big for the Bonnies this afternoon, scoring three goals and tallying two assists.
In the first overtime, goalkeeper
Ashley Herrick made two huge saves, one on a free position shot, to keep the game knotted up at 17.
Herrick finished the game with 14 saves, marking this the third time this season she has recorded 12 or more saves in a game.
Maddie Mazur (three goals),
Nora Anderson (two goals/one assist),
Rebecca Howe (two goals),
Abby Hiltz (two goals/two assists), and
Madison Mundenar (one goal) were all a pivotal part of the Bonnies victory.
The Titans (1-7) were led by Elise Harder (four goals/one assist) and Charlotte Dale (three goals/two assists).
Meredith Leavell (nine saves) started the game for the Titans in net, but was replaced by Hannah Shrader (four saves) in the second half.
