ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team swept rival Niagara in a non-conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Joyce Field.
The Bonnies grabbed game one in five innings, 8-0, and then took game two, 4-0, earning the sweep.
Bona's shutdown the Niagara bats Thursday. The Brown and White pitching staff held the Purple Eagles (4-9, 0-0 MAAC) without a run and allowed just four hits all afternoon.

Grace Perechinsky got things started with a bang, belting a two-run home run to straightaway center field in the bottom of the first.
The Bonnies' bats stayed hot in the bottom of second, posting four runs in the inning to pull away early.
Haley Strang singled up the middle, scoring Macy Miller and Kennedy Haberl to double the lead to 4-0. Back-to-back RBI doubles off the bats of Brooke Bobbey and Olivia Moon gave the hosts a six-run cushion after two full innings.
Tierney Fitzgerald singled home Olivia Whitecar in the bottom of the fourth followed by a game-winning RBI single from Moon with two outs in the fifth to close out the game via the eight-run mercy rule.
Ally Haskell tossed a three-hit shutout, fanning three batters en route to her second victory of the season.
Game 2 – St. Bonaventure 4, Niagara 0 - Box Score (PDF)
The game remained scoreless through the first three and half innings before the Bonnies were able to breakthrough in the bottom of the fourth.
Elyse Graham started the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Fitzgerald. Alyssa Ramarge came around to score on an error one batter later, giving the Bonnies a 2-0 lead.
In the next at-bat, Moon scored Victoria Jacques with a groundout. The Bonnies plated their fourth run of the inning when Strang singled home Grace Walker.
Emily Phalen turned in a stellar outing for the Bonnies (5-17), striking out a season-high seven and allowing just one hit.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, April 2 with an Atlantic 10 doubleheader against Saint Joseph's at Joyce Field. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
